Algebra Q#44

0. A and B are two events such that P(A) = 0.3 and P(AUB) = 0.8. If A and B are independent events, then P(B) is

  • Option : C
  • Explanation : P(A) = 0.3 and P(AUB) = 0.8 .
    Since, A and B are independent events.
    Let P(B) = x
    Then, P(A∩B) =P(A) P(B)
    = 0.3 × x = O.3x
    Again, by addition theorem
    P(AUB) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A∩B).
    ⇒0.8 = 0.3 + x - O.3x ⇒ 0.5 = 0.7x
    X=5/7
