Explanation : Positivism is a philosophical system
recognizing only that which can be scientifically verified or which is capable
of logical or mathematical proof, and
therefore rejecting metaphysics and
theism. Phenomenalism is at the heart
of positivism as it accepts that physical
objects can be known through their
appearance as perceived phenomena.
Positivist studies usually adopt deductive
approach, though, sometimes may
use inductive approach, too.
Interpretivism is not associated, rather
contrasted, with Positivism. Positivists
believe society shapes the individual,
whereas intepretivists believe individuals
shape society. The former use quantitative
methods, while the latter, qualitative
methods. Positivist research is value-free;
and researcher is objective and independent
of the data. Interpretivist research is value
bound; and the researcher is subjective
being part of the subject under research.
