Explanation : The Geological Survey of India has
identified 350 geothermal energy locations
in the country. The most promising of these
is in Puga valley of Ladakh. The estimated
potential for geothermal energy in India is
about 10000 MW or 10 GW. Geothermal
energy is heat derived within the sub-
surface of the earth. Water and/or steam
carry the geothermal energy to the Earth's
surface. Depending on its characteristics,
geothermal energy can be used for heating
and cooling purposes or be harnessed to
generate clean electricity.
