PAPER PATTERN OF GATE COMPUTER SCIENCE :

ELIGIBILITY FOR GATE COMPUTER SCIENCE:

The following students are eligible to take GATE exam:

Academic Qualification:

• Candidates must have passed graduation in engineering/technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) or Master’s degree in any relevant science subject.
• Candidates who obtain certification from any of the professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MHRD/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E. /B. Tech. /B.Arch./ B. Planning etc.

Age Limit:
There is no age limit

What is the GATE Computer Science?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering  is a national examination standard in India for new engineers and science students who want to chase higher studies in engineering or science after their graduation. The exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE.

GATE Computer Science is a stream that focuses on the basics of Computer Programming and Communications. It also includes engineering subjects like Engineering Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics & Graph Theory, Design & Analysis Algorithms, Programming & Data Structure, Digital Logic, and Computer Organization, Theory of Computation, and Compiler design, Operating Systems, DBMS, Computer Networks and General Aptitude.

Can Computer Science students give GATE exams?

Yes, GATE is open for computer science. Students who have done a Bachelor of Technology or a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology or Computer Science and Engineering can take the GATE Computer Science Exam. To the limited extent, the candidate must have at least one year of engineering studies to pass this exam.

Is the GATE good for the CSE?

Computer Science and Engineering students who want to boom up their skills in advanced work or who want academic excellence to clear the GATE. The benefit of this is it opens up many opportunities for excellent students. The GATE exam outline is designed in such a way that it helps institutional administrators to understand the eligibility of a student in that particular stream that has been accepted as the primary assessment process for higher education or appointment to a recognized organization.

GATE benefits for CSE students:

• GATE score is valid for 3 years from the date of the announcement of the result.
• As the GATE score is accepted by several PSUs in India, it offers the opportunity to find lucrative jobs in these PSUs.
• Due to tough competition, many eligible students do not get a place to study at their dream institutions such as IITs. GATE opens up another opportunity to achieve their desired goal.
• Other universities overseas in Singapore and Malaysia also allow GATE score for admission to their MS programs.
• Students can apply directly for Master’s degree courses at prestigious institutions in India such as IITs, NITs and IISc.

How difficult is Gate Computer Science?

It depends on the mindset of the candidate. The GATE Computer Science exam is a mind-focused exam. If you are good enough to use common sense in real world problems then the GATE is not that difficult. There are just a few things you need to follow to understand and study during your entire engineering studies.

• The GATE CS paper will contain 65 questions for MCQ, MSQ, and NAT which will be tested within 3 hours.
• The GATE 2021 Computer Science syllabus is based on the topics of graduation level divided into ten main sections and first section is based on the Engineering Mathematics topics.

Type of Question: 

• MCQ – Multiple Choice Questions
• MSQ – Multiple Select Questions
• NAT – Numerical Answer Type
• 10 Questions will be asked from General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics each.
• 45 Questions to be asked from Core Syllabus. 

Total Marks and Time Duration:

• The paper will be of 100 marks and the total number of questions will be 65.
• GATE CS is a 3-hour long computer-based paper.
• The language of the paper is English.

Marking Criteria

• MCQs – 1 Marks – For each right answer; 1/3 marks will be deducted each wrong answer. 
• MCQs – 2 Marks – For each right answer; 2/3 marks will be deducted for each of the wrong answers.
• NAT – There are no negative checking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. 
• MSQ – There is no negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ questions.

Total Number of Sections: 

• General aptitude
• Engineering Mathematics
• The subject selected by the candidates

General Aptitude carrying 15% of the total marks, Engineering Mathematics carrying 13% of the total marks, and Subject Questions carrying 72% of the total marks.
