State Eligibility Test or SET exams are conducted in various Indian states to determine the eligibility of a candidate for lectureship or for the award of junior research fellowship

These exams are different from NET exams as a candidate who qualifies NET exam is eligible for Lectureship or research fellowship throughout India but anyone who passes SET Exam is eligible for Lectureship or JRF in that particular state only.
SET exam is conducted twice a year in the same way as NET Exam. Different universities conduct it at different times in the year.
No, generally it is not possible as you are required to prove that you are living in that particular state, or must have completed your Graduation or Post graduation from that state. Different States have different criteria for determining the eligibility conditions of a candidate.
