  • UGC NET is a National Eligibility Test conducted by the National Testing Agency(NTA), twice every year. This test is held at the national level for the selection of Assistant Professors and for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in the Indian colleges and universities. The qualifying students may get awarded with both the fellowship and the post of Assistant Professor depending upon their performance in the exam. It is conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). NTA   conducts this  exam in 84 subjects and in 91 cities all over India.


    • UGC NET Exam Eligibility

      Not everyone is eligible to appear for the this exam. There are pre-qualifications required to be able to enter into this examination. In general, the below criteria must be met to appear in the exam:

      • Minimum percentage of 55% for general quota and 50% for all others is required in Post-Graduation exam.
      • Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree, with the year of completion of Master’s Degree as 1991 are eligible with a minimum percentage of 50% in post-graduation exam.
      1. Final year student of post-graduation, whose result is awaited, is eligible for the UGC exam. The final result of the UGC exam will depend on the result of PG when it comes.
      2. The UGC exam can be taken only in the subject chosen for Post-Graduation or a related subject.
      3. Maximum age of students appearing for the UGC exam can be 30 years for general category and 35 for other categories. There are, however, exemptions to this rule, a relaxation of 5 years is granted to candidates who have pursued research for 5 years and of 3 years to LLM degree holders.

      UGC NET Exam Qualification Procedure:

      In order to qualify the this exam one must fulfill and understand the below criteria:

      • The test paper is divided into two parts with a total of 150 questions that must be completed within 3 hours. It is required to achieve the cut off marks for the year in the paper to qualify for JRF.
      • Top 6% of the total candidates are selected for each subject as Assistant Professors, only if they have not applied for JRF.

      The application forms for the exam are made available online. It is essential for the candidates to read the form properly and fill it correctly. No changes are allowed in the form after submission. Incorrect information will lead to termination of candidature.       UGC NET Admit Card 

      Admit Card for the CBSE NET exam is also made available online. Students are required to take the printout of the Admit Card and carry it along with them on the examination day to the exam hall. Permission to enter the examination hall will only be granted to students carrying the hall admit card. The Admit Card must be properly and clearly printed, with the following details visible on it:

      Candidate Name

      • Candidate Roll number,
      • Registration number,
      • Centre name and address,
      • Date and time,
      • Category of the candidate (General, SC/ST/OBC or others),
      • Photograph,
      • Signature,
      • Subject Name and other relevant information.

NTA UGC NET EXAM PATTERN :

 

  • UGC NET Exam Paper Pattern:

    The earlier patterns of the UGC exam required 3 papers to be attempted by students. The pattern has changed since 2018, and now only 2 papers are required to be attempted.

    • Paper 1 consists of common aptitude questions applicable to every student. This paper has 50 questions in all and all questions are compulsory. The paper carries 100 marks and is required to be completed within 1 hour. 
    • Paper 2 consists of the chosen subject related questions by the candidate. This paper gives you two hours to complete its 100 questions and carries 200 marks in total.
    • There is no negative marking in the UGC test paper and each question carries 2 marks.
